How to Properly Edit WordPress Theme Files

  1. The wrong way: Editing through WordPress itself 00:40
    • If you are trying to make edits to the actual php of your WordPress theme files, then don’t make these edits through WordPress itself.
    • You don’t want to do this because you could potentially break your website if you insert the wrong code.
  2. The right way: Use FTP 01:50
    • Use your File Transfer Protocols to edit your theme files.
    • If you break the site, you can easily undo your changes.
  3. FTP resources 03:35
    • Coda is a premium paid software with an FTP and code editor all in one.
    • Filezilla is a free software where you download the file, edit it, and then reupload.
